Yes, he IS bigtime trouble.... Currently, his "naughty things" he's been getting busted for are:
1. Letting himself outside at both a big store and at church during choir practice. We're trying to teach him that it isn't safe to be outside by himself like that. Yikes!
2. Spitting: this seems to be compulsive, and not done in malice.... Just a spontaneous thing he does when he's riled up or excited... It's part of being hyper for him, and it especially bugs Dad. So we're trying to nip it in the bud!
3. Noah is most recently deeply afflicted with a form of "Toddler Turrets Syndrome".... BAD. He is enchanted with semi-inappropriate words like "Poopy", "Boobie" and "Stinky!".... And he has this clearly subconscious BLURT reflex that is causing him to erupt with these words at the most random (and often inappropriate) times. We're trying to teach him that they are "naughty words" and we're using Time Out as a consequence if he repeats one of the first two words. He seems to get it, and knows we disapprove--- but even then, sometimes the word pops back out again, almost without his control, and he'll IMMEDIATELY look my way and say, "Sorry, mom! Sorry!" Like he KNOWS he shouldn't, but couldn't help it. It's so odd and compulsive!!
But the worst is "stinky", because I told him he could go ahead and say that one... a concession for him trying so hard to fight the other words... And today I SWEAR he has said "stinky" as if he's a broken record, over and over and over and over and over... upwards of 50 times in one setting... And in a very "Turrets" way... Like he can't help it. We have to snap him out of the "repeat".... only to have him do it again an hour later. He just seems to LOVE rolling these consonant-rich words on his tongue... savoring our disapproval just a bit... the illicitness part of the charm.
And ya know what? He's not the first kid or the last to fixate on naughty words.... and LOVE the sound of them in his mouth.
I just pray this phase passes soon. I am SICK of hearing "STINKY!!!!!!!!" a gajillion times a day.
Ugh.

Hehehe
That is always hard. I try to come up with some funny alternatives to "naughty" words. Ex: we say "Ah pickles!" when things don't go our way. "Silly billy" is another one my kids love. Maybe make up rhyming expessions that have to do with something he loves, like trains??
Consistency is always key! Noah will grow out of his choice of words. Parenting is always challenging, continue to follow through and eventually as parents we win out...trust me I have six children whom are all adults now.
