Dear Noah,
Tonight, as I was putting you to bed, I had so many thoughts about how marvelous you are... And I wanted to make sure I wrote them down before another night of working here at the computer took me out of the moment. Noah, there are so many things I adore about you.
Today, I love:
1. the way, when I would pause and let you finish, you knew nearly EVERY ending word of each line of the "Twinkle, Twinkle" book we've read for so long. You've been paying attention!
2. the feel of your warm, clean, pajama'ed body in my arms as we do your bedtime routine.
3. Your new, mostly exhausting refrain of "Again? Again?", said with a bit of British accent.
4. The way you have started silently demanding I hold you in the cradle hold immediately when I sing your bedtime songs, instead of waiting for the last song like we've done for ages.Your arm snakes under mine and you firmly begin leaning horizontally... and I know EXACTLY what you're asking for.
5. And then, as I hold you to my body, you pat the back of my arm, mimicking the way I pat your back.
6. Your comprehension of the funny parts of Pixar's "Lifted", the digital short... You LOVED watching it "again? again?" today....
7. The way you get so into the singing time at Nursery. Today I peeped through the peephole, making sure you were doing okay without me, and you were in the center of the seated kids, standing and dancing in your hippie/boho way... totally groovin' out to the songs you know so well.
8. You ate your food SO well today... with no fuss. Broccoli, chicken... All of it. And then promptly asked for a "treat?" immediately after. Too cute. (photo above taken at lunchtime, with my cellphone).
9. You wake up in the morning and no longer cry for us... you just start asking, "Mommy? Datty? Mommy? Datty? Mommy? Mommy? Datty?" ... over and over, with such trust that we WILL come.
10. the smell of your soft, thick hair right after bathtime... damp, curling a bit at the ends, and smelling like baby boy...
Noah, I adore you. You are the best thing that has ever happened to me, not counting your dad. You amaze me daily with what you are learning, you melt my heart with the ways you show your love, and you make me want to be a better person. You may know how to push my buttons a bit, but what 20-month old ISN'T a little frustrating at times? We've had a really good week this past week, though, and I love feeling this adoration for you that always sneaks in after a stressful moment and reminds me that all of it is worth it. These are the moments I will yearn for one day. So I am trying to stay in the moment and love you exactly as you are. And 99.9% of the time, that is the easiest thing in the world to do. Because you are AMAZING. You are beautiful. And you are mine.
I love you.

That is an awesome post.
I used to read Goodnight Moon to my kids every night (one of my all time favorite kids books, btw) and all 3 of my kids can follow along. And I'm glad to hear that he sometimes speaks with a British accent. Morgan really does whenever she plays house. "Where is my daughteh?" Awesome.
Wonderful list. I know he'll love reading that someday...as will you, again and again.
He looks so much like your own lil-kid-emily photos there. WOW.
There is nothing like the love of a mama! You wrote it out so beautifully!
